Prescott, AZ —Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors the Congressional Art Competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) recently presented the winning student artists from across Arizona’s Second Congressional District with scholarship awards in recognition of their hard work and talent. All submitted artwork was displayed at the Phippen Museum in Prescott, where local judges visited to view and evaluate each piece. This year’s 1st Place winner was Nicholas Osborn, a student from Mingus Union High School, for his piece “Looking Forward.” Nicholas will be flown to Washington, DC for an awards banquet and have his award-winning artwork displayed for a year in the U.S. Capitol.

Asher McFarland, a student from Mingus Union High School, won 2nd Place for his piece “A Day in the Life of a Fridge.” His teacher, Jason Teague, accepted the award on his behalf.

Sarah Meyer, a student from Prescott High School, won 3rd Place for her piece “Desert Beauty.”

Anna Murphy, a student from Trinity Christian School, received Honorable Mention for her piece “Majestic Long Horn Ram.”

The People’s Choice Award allows the public to vote for their favorite piece of art submitted to the competition from their congressional district. This year, the People’s Choice award was given to Harmony Shaw, a student from Williams High School, for her piece “The Storm Will Pass.”
